after you “release the smoke from your mouth,” i was reminded of the hyper-speed montage movies employ right before apocalypse; a mournfully fragmented and incomplete translation of the state of the world and its people in that moment. The attempt to show everything is, of course, never to be fulfilled, but the goal of tasting a moment seems to be successful. I’ve never seen a kurosawa film but he comes to mind.
you, in contrast, maintain this moment in a personal frame. at the height of the perspectival zoom-out, we’re pulled back to you washing your hands, and then we follow the water back away from you. i imagine if i were reading this passage to myself, i’d say i were washing my hands.
i am fond of the segue to the end of the passage, where you provide an image for this exact phenomenon, including me (or you if i were reading) in the event as we “propel from civilization.”
the intensely emotional moment of collision as both literal and metaphorical event delivers me to the end of the passage and i realize how beautiful and insubstantial life can be.

where did you find that AMAZING cyber-marmot pic? i’ve always believed they cause more online viruses than humans. this one appears to be “jacking in” to a mainframe of some sort (also a Windows O/S user. dismally behind the times)
